SeaGrassTraitDB

SeagrassTraitDB is a global data base of seagrass traits. It integrates world-wide seagrass trait data in one consistent format. SeagrassTraitDB is based on data sets contributed by seagrass scientists. Plant Traits are any morphological, anatomical, biochemical, physiological or phenological feature measurable at the individual level, from the cell to the whole organism. The individual is considered to lie at the heart of the ecological and evolutionary processes as it is at its level that acclimation and adaptation occur.

Junior researcher (M/F) in bioinformatics - 1 vacancy

Reference: CCMAR/ID/20/2018

The Algarve Centre for Marine Sciences (CCMAR) opens a call for a Junior Researcher (M/F), of any nationality, including stateless candidates. The
indefinite period employment contract will be as part of the EOSC-Life Research and Innovation Action (RIA - INFRAEOSC-04-2018) working on the EOSC Demonstrator Project titled "Marine Eukaryote Genomics Portal - access to tools and data-flows for marine genome annotation in the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)."

EMBO Practical Course Tree building: Advanced concepts and practice of phylogenetic analysis

The use of phylogenetic methods to reconstruct the evolutionary history of molecular sequences is a vital part of biological research. These methods underpin studies on the evolution and epidemiology of plant and animal parasites and disease-causing organisms, and more generally they allow an objective analysis of the patterns and processes generating biological diversity. To carry out phylogenetic analysis properly, it is necessary to have a good understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of the key methods and approaches. This EMBO Practical Course has been designed to provide the theoretical and practical skills needed to carry out state-of-the-art phylogenetic analyses.

An Introduction to Data Management @ CCMAR

Understanding data management in a research environment is becoming increasingly important as national and European infrastructures promote ERA-wide Open Science policies. At present EU funding agencies require researchers to provide a Data Management Plan; a requirement that is likely to be standard at the national level in the near future. So what are the responsibilities of publicly-funded researchers with respect to scientific data? This course will introduce (meta) data types, how they are managed in an Open Science research environment, and how to comply with FAIR data principles. The course will also discuss what computational resources and expertise are available to researchers.
